Love our Library

Echo cannot keep going without the support of all our friends around the world who have given so generously. Here are three ways in which you can help us:

Echo Needs Books

We are a library operating in unusual circumstances with users whose lives are inherently unstable and who have extremely limited access to reading materials. We are constantly having to find inventive ways to replenish our supplies.

At the moment, our needs are mainly for Farsi, Arabic, Kurmanji and Sorani books, although Urdu, Bangla, Turkish, French, Greek, Pashto and English are always appreciated. These books can be anything, but particularly helpful are:

  • educational resources for language-learning (for example, learning English through Kurmanji, or German through Farsi)

  • children’s books, especially bilingual and Farsi books

  • good quality literature and poetry

  • history books

  • science books

  • books for young people

  • easy reader books for English, Greek and German

If you think you can make a donation of some of the books we need, get in touch at contact@echo-greece.org.

Echo needs financial support

When you consider how much Echo does, our running costs are low. We distribute multilingual language resources, lend books, offer Greek and English lessons, free wifi and children’s activities in four camps and four community spaces in and around Athens every week.

As you can imagine our fuel, printing costs for educational materials, wifi, two co-ordinator stipends (300E each per month) all add up, but they are absolutely essential to what we do.

Donate through our chuffed page here:

Echo Needs you

Echo needs volunteers with experience in working with books, education and vulnerable displaced people. Language skills in Farsi/Dari, Arabic, Kurmanji, Sorani, Urdu and Greek are always useful!

If you would like to volunteer with us in Greece, we ask for a minimum two-month commitment. However if you have a specific project in mind we are open to suggestions with a shorter duration.

In addition, if you think you have expertise in another area (website maintenance, fundraising etc) and you would like to help, we would love to hear from you.

Contact us at contact@echo-greece.org if you are interested in joining our small but perfectly formed team.
